Professor Laurent Lantieri is a world-renowned plastic and reconstructive surgeon who has led pioneering teams in face and hand transplantation. He has performed nine face transplants to date, including a groundbreaking combined face and double hand transplant. Recently, his department at Hôpital Européen Georges Pompidou in Paris received authorization and funding from French authorities to continue performing these transformative procedures over the next five years. This work complements his everyday practice in reconstructive microsurgery, where he specializes in innovative techniques, and his research on ischemia-reperfusion injury, which has advanced the understanding and outcomes of complex transplant surgeries.
